Autumn 2015
On October 10th we had an open morning for the public – a Quire Workshop at Slack Space, Colchester. Slack Space has moved to Piatto Café for these events. We had 8 or 9 members of the public join us and certainly, apart from the pleasure of singing our material in front of the café customers, we had new recruits too.

On November 13th at Peldon Church we had an informal American-styled Pot Luck – euphemistically called At your Convenience! Quire members came and sang and we had a great night.

The ‘Christmas’ concert was back at Lion Walk on December 10th at 7.30pm. The theme was ‘Born in the Night reflecting the plight of Mary and her husband as they were driven from one village to another to escape persecution.  Lots more people than usual in the audience – was it the use of social media I wonder? Jane sang and read Mary and I grumbled away at Joseph – and Quire sang whatever was thrown at them. Thanks so much to them. The highlight for many was the spiritual ‘Hold on’ where Quire excelled in the ‘big’ sound they can make in the church. Thrilling!

News for 2016
Octavia has a concert at the Nottage Institute in Wivenhoe to celebrate International Women’s Day. This is on March 5th and will include some songs that reflect the current situation in the Middle East with items from Syria and from Afghanistan. Contact me for more details if you want to hear Octavia (billtamblyn@quire.org)
On Friday 18th March at 7.30pm Quire has a concert in All Saints- Brightlingsea – the church on the hill with an extant West Gallery. It is Grade One listed was begun about 1250.  We will have also have contributions from Octavia and Towering Angels. The concert will link the two alliances – France and Scotland – The Auld Alliance and also link two sung forms which link England with America – West Gallery and FASOLA.  This promises to be a feast of music.

Summer 2016
We have a booking for Octavia and Towering Angels from the Colchester Anglo French Society to sing a French programme called Chansons. This will be on Wednesday May 18th but the audience will be restricted to Society members. Contact me (Bill) for more details.

We have a gig focusing on West Gallery and American FASOLA on Sunday May 22nd at 3pm in Little Braxted – and this will feature Octavia and Towering Angels. The church is unique – covered in paintings made by the Vicar- Ernest Geldart – at the end of the 19th century. Only seats about 50 people.

On July 1st at the end of term, and the end of the Quire year, we will celebrate all of our CDs in a Final Concert.  We are not sure at this point where this will be. Watch this space – again! The working title for this event is, not surprisingly, Celebration!
